The Zohar is the chief Kabbalah text, which directs Torah study along 4-levels of interpretation known by the acronym PaRDeS: Parshat (simple, surface meaning); Remez (hinted); D’rash (search); & Sud (hidden). Zohar means “splendor”, and first appeared in Spain in the 13th century
